"Flying University" is named as a tribute to people of all times, whether recognized or anonymous, who pursued their studies in a self-taught, free, or even clandestine manner. The first institution to bear this name educated, for example, Marie Skłodowska-Curie, better known as Marie Curie.
The name is also associated with the El Pez Volador project, dedicated since 2006 to promoting development through education.
